Commercial/Contract Director
 
Role Purpose:
We are seeking a Commercial/Contract Director to support our client’s business by educating, advising, and influencing key stakeholders on commercial best practices. This role contributes to the long-term growth and profitability of the business, aligning with the broader commercial strategy.
The role provides daily support to leadership teams, serving as a subject matter expert on commercial agreements, including terms, risks, contractual entitlements, operational compliance, cost control, financial responsibilities, and milestone obligations. You will collaborate with subject matter experts (SMEs) and legal teams to support the business effectively.
 
This position also leads the commercial management of accounts, including attending client meetings, negotiating contractual outcomes, and providing commercial training. Additionally, you will support account transitions by guiding operational and procurement teams in risk management, change implementation, and best practices.
 
This is a remote role, preferably based on the West Coast, with up to 15% travel.

Key Responsibilities:
Commercial Compliance & Strategy:
  • Promote compliance with governance policies and procedures.
  • Provide, maintain, and advise on the use of standard documentation and templates.
  • Educate and influence stakeholders on commercial best practices.
  • Develop leadership commercial awareness through meetings, presentations, and training.
  • Advise on contractual obligations, risk mitigation, and financial responsibilities.
Commercial Solutions & Risk Management:
  • Provide commercial solutions to operational challenges to minimize risk and maximize opportunities.
  • Develop strategies for contract performance, KPIs, incentives, and risk mitigation.
  • Lead negotiations on contractual entitlements and client agreements.
  • Identify and resolve high-impact commercial issues, including disputes or litigation risks.
Supplier & Stakeholder Engagement:
  • Ensure best commercial practices in supplier and subcontractor management.
  • Support sourcing teams in contract placement and supplier negotiations.
  • Ensure risk is transferred effectively through back-to-back contractual obligations.
  • Strengthen long-term client relationships by identifying innovative commercial solutions.
Qualifications & Skills:
  • Proven experience in contracting, legal compliance, and contract lifecycle management.
  • Strong ability to impact sales and profit through commercial strategy and risk management.
  • Demonstrated success in account contract management and issue resolution.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills.
  • Ability to solve complex problems and provide strategic commercial solutions.
  • Experience in contract negotiation, financial oversight, and supplier management.
  • Strong numeracy and business acumen, with the ability to anticipate and address business needs.
