Engineering Operations Director

California Permanent £200K - £240K / Year

Boden Talent is partnering with a leading organization to hire an Engineering Operations Director in San Jose, California. This senior leadership position will oversee engineering teams responsible for the performance, reliability, and operation of MEP systems across a portfolio of high-rise commercial properties.

The Role As the Engineering Operations Director, you’ll:
  • Lead engineering and technical operations across a portfolio of commercial properties.
  • Oversee the reliability, maintenance, and performance of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems.
  • Manage operating budgets and overall financial performance for the business unit.
  • Lead, coach, and develop engineering teams, including recruitment, performance management, and succession planning.
  • Oversee preventive maintenance, repairs, facility controls, and asset management systems.
  • Manage contractors, subcontractors, bidding processes, and vendor performance.
  • Establish operational priorities, engineering standards, KPIs, and team objectives.
  • Identify opportunities to improve reliability, efficiency, processes, and service delivery.
  • Partner with senior stakeholders and other departments to achieve strategic objectives.
  • Support new business opportunities, proposals, and client presentations when required.
You To be successful, you’ll bring:
  • 8–12 years of relevant engineering or facilities operations experience.
  • Significant leadership experience managing technical and engineering teams.
  • Strong knowledge of MEP systems and complex commercial building operations.
  • Experience within Class A or high-rise commercial properties is highly desirable.
  • Proven budget management and financial leadership experience.
  • Strong contractor, vendor, and stakeholder management capabilities.
  • Experience recruiting, coaching, developing, and retaining high-performing teams.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Engineering is preferred, although equivalent education and relevant professional experience will be considered.
  • Current authorization to work in the United States without current or future visa sponsorship.
